About this workshop
Bring your laptop. An engineer works through a first contribution with you, live. You find a beginner-friendly issue, fix it and open a pull request.
You don’t need to have used Git before. We cover what you need during the session.
What you will learn
- 01
How to find projects that welcome first-time contributors.
- 02
How to use Git and GitHub to make your change.
- 03
How to open a pull request that maintainers want to review.

Before you register
Is it really free?
Yes. Every NYC workshop is free. You only need to register so we can send you the joining link.
Do I need coding experience?
No. We build step by step, and the engineer explains each part as we go. Bring a laptop so you can follow along.
How do I join on the day?
After you register, we send the joining link before the session starts. Open it on your laptop or phone a few minutes early.
Will this get me an internship?
The workshop helps you plan and prepare. You still need to learn, build and practise, and attending does not guarantee an internship.
